Tile works of Terlegiz

Located just a few metres from the entrance of the old spa on the road between Kortezubi and Santimamiñe, it was discovered in 1982 during works to widen the road, and was later excavated archaeologically. Construction is based on a vertical draught furnace for producing tiles and bricks, adapted to the natural slope of the terrain. Carbon 14 dating analyses determined it was used in the 17th century in order to satisfy the local demand for bricks and tiles. In 2002 conservation work was carried out by the Cultural-Archaeological Association and the Platform for Environmental Volunteers of Urdaibai, Agiri and Galtzagorriak respectively, with the aim of preserving the value of this cultural jewel and rescuing it from the deplorable state it was found in.
